Dumfries and Galloway have a variety of historical attractions such as castles, monuments and buildings, some of which offer free entrance. Lochmaben itself has Lochmaben Castle, which was built by The Brus Family, Lords of Annandale in the late 12th century. Caerlaverock Castle is only a 35 minute drive from the caravan site. Here you will find a wide moat, twin towered gatehouse and lofty battlements. There is also a small tearoom and gift shop to finish your visit off nicely.
Walking, Cycling and Exploring
Within the heart of Dumfries and Galloway is the Galloway Forest Park. Dramatic views and spectacular scenery for 300square miles of pure serenity. This is Britain’s largest forest park. The Galloway forest park is home to some magnificent wildlife such as red, roe and sika deer and birds of prey. You can follow the Kite trail to explore the forest area whilst admiring the beautiful red kites. Dark Sky Park has been awarded to the Galloway forest due to the remoteness and lack of light pollution. Ae forest is only 13 miles away, perfect for walkers, cyclists and anyone who wishes to enjoy the scenery. Fishing spots can be found along the river Annan at various sites.

If you want a cliff edge with a peaceful cove for relaxing and paddling or a Historical beach town leading down to a harbour, then only a short driveaway you can find breathtakingly open sandy beaches everywhere you look.
